Fibre type is a useful starting point, but not a complete product selection. Construction, coating, termination and duty profile also belong in the comparison.
Ask for more than a generic fibre name
Fibres can differ in weight, elongation, environmental response and contact behaviour. Read these properties from the selected product’s data sheet; a general name does not mean identical performance.
Define the priorities of the application
Explain which behaviour is required for mooring, towing or industrial use. Equipment instructions, contact surfaces and the environment inform technical review.
Review equivalence using documents
Do not assume equivalence from diameter or fibre name alone. Request comparative product data that includes finished assemblies, eye arrangements and protection requirements.
A short enquiry checklist
- Fibre and construction
- Operating profile
- Contact and environmental conditions
- Finished assembly and data sheet
This guide supports technical communication. It is not site-specific selection, inspection or approval for use; follow relevant manufacturer instructions and competent assessment.
